Process for Permission to Enroll in Another Institution

Clark School Undergraduate Advising Office

Step 1: Go to www.transfercredit.umd.edu to check for course equivalency.
Step 2: Go to http://eng.umd.edu/student-forms; click on “Permission to Enroll in Another Institution Form” (at the bottom of the page).
Step 3: Follow instructions on the form; fill out the form; submit form online; wait for their approval BEFORE you register for the course(s) at the other institution.
Step 4: Enroll at the other institution.
Step 5: Transfer credit back to the University of Maryland once the course is complete.

Exception to Policy

Clark School Undergraduate Advising Office

Step 1: Decide on reason(s) to petition (i.e. enroll for more than 18 credits, register for time conflict, enroll in a course for a third time, exceed the 18 repeat credit limit, etc.).
Step 2: Go to http://eng.umd.edu/student-forms; click on “Exception to Policy Petition.”
Step 3: Find the form for your reason. If it is not listed, use “Other”.
Step 4: Submit form online.

Taking Graduate Courses as an Undergraduate

Step 1: Decide on what the graduate course(s) will count towards (BS/MS credit, undergraduate credit, or graduate credit)
Step 2: Go to http://eng.umd.edu/student-forms; click on the appropriate form under “Request to take Graduate Courses (online form).”
Step 3: Fill out and submit form online.

Internal Change of Major

Step 1: Go to http://eng.umd.edu/student-forms; click on “Declaring/Changing Major within Engineering.”
Step 2: Fill out the Declaring/Changing Major within Engineering form and submit the form online.

Declaring Double Major

Clark School Undergraduate Advising Office

Step 1: Go to http://eng.umd.edu/student-forms; click on “Double Major/Degree.”
Step 2: Click on “Policies, Guidelines & Instructions for Double Degree” and review the information.
Step 3: Open the Double Major/Double Degree Excel document; fill out the form.
Step 4: Meet with advisors and colleges for both majors to sign off on the form; return it to 1131 Glenn Martin Hall.

Permission to take ENME 472 without having completed ENME 351, 361, 371, and/or 331

Mechanical Engineering Department

Step 1: Go to https://umdsurvey.umd.edu/jfe/form/SV_720Wubc3VqK6xPE.
Step 2: Fill out the form and submit.
Step 3: Receive response from the department prior to registering for the course or creating an alternative plan.
